After traveling approximately 40 km, we will arrive at the El Desempe\u00f1o checkpoint to pay the entrance fee to the Pen\u00ednsula Vald\u00e9s reserve, where we will begin to discover the beauty of its landscape, flora and terrestrial fauna.<\/p><p>Here we begin to travel along the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus, a narrow strip of land that connects the Peninsula to the continent. If we look to our right, we can see the Golfo Nuevo and to the left, the Golfo San Jos\u00e9 and a small island called Isla de los P\u00e1jaros, where different types of birds live and people are not allowed to enter.<\/p><p>The first stop will be at the Carlos Ameghino interpretation center to learn about the marine and terrestrial fauna and flora that we will find along the route through the Peninsula, as well as the history of the region. You can see the skeleton of a whale, stuffed animals and the rest of the ancient inhabitants of the region. The center has a viewing point that can be accessed to observe the immense landscape that is presented to us.<\/p><p>We continue our journey until we reach Puerto Pir\u00e1mides, the only authorized place for whale watching on board and the only urbanized region within the Peninsula. We will stay here for approximately three hours so that those passengers who want to enjoy the unforgettable experience of sailing in the crystalline waters of the Golfo Nuevo can do so and those who do not can take a walk along the beach enjoying the charms of the place. Generally at noon we take the opportunity to have lunch in this paradisiacal place.<\/p><p>We leave Pir\u00e1mides to continue the excursion along Provincial Route No. 2. The route will depend on the time of year:<\/p><p>_ May \u2013 September we will go to Punta Delgada, 80 km to the southeastern end of the Peninsula. On the way we will pass by the Salina Grande and the Salina Chica, which are the most important depressions in South America. Depending on the time of day we will be able to see them with a pinkish color due to their chemical composition and the reflection of the sun. Punta Delgado is an old naval settlement. On the lookout point that is located on a cliff you can see one of the largest concentrations of elephant seals. We continue our journey to the north and arrive at Caleta Vald\u00e9s, an impressive place due to its surroundings. This geographical feature is an entrance to the sea to the continent that is enclosed by a thin strip of land. In this wildlife reserve live penguins, grey or southern kelp gulls, royal and black-necked or rock cormorants, Antarctic pigeons and some species of terns and giant petrels, and guanacos, sometimes we see choiques, piches and maras.<\/p><p>The penguins arrive here every year in September and stay until April before embarking on the journey to the northeast of South America. During their stay in Punta Tombo they nest, mate and have their offspring. In the reserve we will hear squeals, which is their way of communicating. You can also enjoy other attractions typical of the area, such as the steppe fauna and flora. The area has important cliffs, natural viewpoints where it is possible to contemplate the coastal landscape, with its immense abrasion platforms (restingas). The characteristics of the area allow the development of other recreational activities, in addition to those typical of a coastal environment, the perfect place to appreciate the Whales and their offspring just a few meters from the coast, blowing and showing their tails and fins at all times.
